Inverness is the most northerly city in the British Isles and lies in the heart of the vast Scottish Highlands. It’s a dynamic, friendly city a few miles from the shores of the renowned Loch Ness, providing not just a great base for exploring, but also plenty to see and do. The Columba Hotel is situated directly across the river from Inverness Museum and Art Gallery and Inverness Castle. Inverness Cathedral and Eden Court Theatre (the largest purpose-built arts and entertainment complex in Scotland) are also just a few minutes walk from the hotel. Historic buildings and a great selection of modern shops are all within a short walking distance.
Turning right on leaving the hotel, Ness Islands Walk takes visitors upstream from the city centre, where the cathedral and war memorial can be spotted on the approach to the small islands in the middle of the river. A walk around the islands provides an oasis of calm and a uniquely magical atmosphere.
We are close to the train station, while Inverness Airport (INV) is only 12.1 km / 7.5 mi away. Should you wish to take public transport to and from the airport, there is a regular bus service with buses approximately every half hour. The journey takes 25 minutes.
Attractions close to the city include Loch Ness (the largest body of water in Britain and home to an elusive monster), Culloden Battlefield (site of the last battle fought on British soil) and Chanonry Point, where you can watch dolphins and even whales.
